Carbon dioxide and climate change are largely invisible. This book by UBC Professor Stephen Sheppard demonstrates new ways to make carbon and climate change visible where we care the most, in our own backyards and local communities. Using compelling visual imagery, we can learn to interpret the science, recognize local implications, and imagine future solutions through a new climate change lens. The book provides comprehensive guidance on new visual media tools for community engagement and mobilizing climate action on the world’s greatest crisis.
This event is also to thank the many local colleagues, practitioners, artists, research partners, students and others who have contributed so much to the book by providing images, data, ideas, funding or research support. We will show some of the powerful visualization tools described in the book, and feature the cutting-edge capabilities of the immersive BC Hydro Theatre at CIRS, including current research on a climate change videogame called ‘Future Delta’.
