PICS Internship — Forager Hill Consulting

Forager Hill Consulting collaborates with Indigenous Governments to champion the strong vision of Indigenous leaders and bring their resilience goals to life. Since 2020, they have been working alongside First Nations to implement effective strategies for climate adaptation, disaster resilience, and language and cultural revitalization. They believe in a holistic approach to resilience, offering a comprehensive suite of services tailored to the unique needs and aspirations of each community. Their team of experienced professionals provides hands-on support in community planning, funding strategies, and project management, ensuring that Indigenous communities have the resources and expertise they need to build a stronger future on their own terms.

Position summary
Forager Hill Consulting is seeking a motivated Climate Action Intern to join their team part-time (20 hours per week). This role supports their community planning and climate adaptation work in Indigenous communities. The Climate Action Intern will assist in designing and facilitating climate adaptation planning processes, helping to source funding, and supporting climate action projects once funded. Working directly under a Community Planner, this role is ideal for candidates passionate about climate action and Indigenous community development.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and facilitation of community climate adaptation planning processes tailored to the needs of First Nations communities.
  • Support the development of climate adaptation actions that align with community values and goals.
  • Research potential funding sources and assist in the preparation of funding applications.
  • Participate in project implementation for funded climate adaptation projects, helping coordinate tasks and track progress.
  • Contribute to writing community planning reports, summarizing findings, action steps, and community input.
  • Attend meetings with community leaders and stakeholders to gather insights and feedback.
  • Support community engagement efforts and help document project outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree program in Environmental Studies, Geography, Indigenous Studies, Community Planning, Climate Science, Emergency Management or a related field.
  • Strong interest in climate adaptation, resilience, and Indigenous community development.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides).
  • Experience in community planning, environmental project work, report writing, or grant writing is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment, with occasional travel to rural and remote Indigenous communities.

Compensation

$25-$35 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
