This internship is hosted by the Peak HydroMet Solutions, with funding from the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions.
Peak HydroMet Solutions is seeking a problem solver with exceptional programming skills who can provide innovative solutions to tackle new challenges. The position offers responsibility and a degree of autonomy. The primary role will be to utilize software tools to build, enhance, and maintain environmental data management, analysis, and delivery platforms. There may also be some opportunity to participate in field work, which will help foster further understanding of how these activities benefit the real world.
Desired skills and experience
- The competences outlined below are considered beneficial for this role.
- Proficiency in computer programming, specifically in languages used for data management and visualization in IoT environments (JavaScript, Python, NodeJS).
- Ability to build creative responsive dashboards that provide user interaction and data visualization.
- Proficiency in HTML and CSS are necessary. Knowledge of platforms like ThingsBoard and Grafana would be extremely beneficial.
- Knowledge of data analytics, trend analysis, and anomaly detection along with strong background in mathematics, statistics, modelling, and machine learning would be helpful.
- Knowledge of databases like SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL), NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra), Airtable, and InfluxDB.
- Familiarity with networking protocols such as MQTT, HTTP, and TCP/IP.
- Experience with using and managing API’s.
- Experience administering and operating in cloud platforms like AWS and Google Cloud.
- Experience with sensors and electronics would be helpful. This includes sensor protocols and wireless communications using 4G/LTE, LPWAN, and satellite.
- Knowledge or experience with agricultural production, meteorology, hydrology, or other physical sciences would be considered an asset.
- This position is remote so access to a suitable workspace with a reliable internet connection is necessary. The work schedule is somewhat flexible.
- A drivers license with a clean drivers abstract would be beneficial but not critical. Access to a personal vehicle would also be helpful but not critical.
