Ben is a Masters candidate from the SFU School of Resource and Environmental Management. His research focuses on the potential role of forest rehabilitation in mitigating greenhouse gas emissions in the BC forest sector. Forests severely damaged by extreme fire and pest infestation provide opportunities for productivity enhancement, utilization of deadwood for products and energy and avoided emissions associated with decay. During his prior careers as a geologist and tree planter Ben has enjoyed exploring the forests of BC, from the monumental cedar of Haida Gwaii, to the short black spruce of Fort Nelson. Ben has an undergraduate degree in Earth Science and Geography from the University of Victoria and is a registered Professional Geoscientist.
