Eric Balke

Coordinator – South Coast Conservation Land Management Program

As the Coordinator of the South Coast Conservation Land Management Program, Eric leads the collaborative management of over 37,000 hectares of provincial conservation land throughout the BC South Coast in partnership with the province of British Columbia, Ducks Unlimited Canada, The Nature Trust of BC, and the Canadian Wildlife Service of Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Eric earned a BSc in Biology from the University of British Columbia (UBC) and a MSc in Ecological Restoration from Simon Fraser University (SFU) and the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). During the latter degree he studied the causes of ongoing tidal marsh loss throughout the Fraser River delta front. Eric continues that research as project leader of the Sturgeon Bank Marsh Recession Project, in addition to collaborating with governments, researchers, and stakeholders to identify ways in which to facilitate ecological resilience to sea-level rise in South Coast conservation lands.
