Jen Baron

PhD Candidate, Department of Forest and Conservation Sciences, Faculty of Forestry, UBC

PhD candidate Jen Baron joins PICS as a researcher on the Wildfire and Carbon project, where she brings expertise in wildland fire science, landscape ecology, and ecological modelling.

Her doctoral research is at the nexus of theory and application, addressing fire risk through past trends and contemporary management decisions. She aims to understand how the legacies of fire suppression and fuel accumulation determine current fire behaviour and interact with climate and management scenarios. Through the PICS project, Jen collaborates with a diverse group of knowledge holders to shape the next generation of fire research.

Jen’s previous research focused on invasive species interactions and climate change impacts on forest community composition in eastern Canada. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Western University.
