Faculty Research in the PICS / Built Environment Project
Dr. Kasun Hewage is a Full Professor in the School of Engineering at UBC Okanagan with multidisciplinary project experiences in Canada and internationally. He holds a PhD in project management from the University of Calgary. Prior to joining UBC in 2008, he worked in oil and gas industry, and hydropower and infrastructure development projects. At present, he is directing the UBC Okanagan’s Life Cycle Management Laboratory, which is the only such facility in Canada. The main focus of Dr. Hewage’s research program is life cycle thinking for sustainable development. This research program places special emphasis on energy-related challenges, and brings researchers, local governments and industry together with the objective of seeking environmentally friendly, socially acceptable, and economically viable solutions for urban development and asset management challenges. His research team has assisted many local governments and developers to improve energy efficiency in the existing and planned buildings and neighborhoods and have developed several industry-ready decision support tools and best practices. The program has generated above 300 journal and 200 conference articles, as well as over 50 technical reports.
