Shannon Holding

Post-Doctoral Researcher

Shannon is a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Earth Sciences. Her research aims to characterise aquifer vulnerability in the northeastern region of BC based on the DRASTIC vulnerability mapping methods. The objective is to contribute to the assessment of risk to water and the cumulative effects of rapid growth in the shale gas industry. Shannon is engaged with the North East Water Strategy partnership which seeks collaboration among stakeholders to address monitoring and data gaps in order to improve water management in the region. Previous research includes the development of a risk assessment framework to evaluate water security risk alongside projected climate change impacts to the aquifer system. Shannon has her BSc (UWaterloo) and PhD (SFU) in hydrogeology and has worked in Canada, the Caribbean and Sub-Saharan Africa alongside academic institutions, NGOs, local government, and private agencies.
