Jennifer Magel

PhD Student, University of British Columbia

Jenn is a first-year PhD student in the Conservation Decisions Lab at the University of British Columbia. Her research with the Living with Water project will examine the impacts of sea level rise on intertidal foraging habitat for migratory shorebirds in the Fraser River estuary, with the aim of informing future conservation and management actions for these species.

Jenn completed her MSc in Biology at the University of Victoria in 2018, specializing in coral reef ecology. Her MSc research examined the effects of the 2015–2016 El Niño and mass coral bleaching event on coral reef structural complexity and reef fish communities, and she has also conducted work on songbirds in Ontario and pufferfish in the Bahamas. In her spare time, Jenn enjoys reading, writing, travelling, and exploring new places in and around Vancouver.
