Sybil Seitzinger, executive director of the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions and member of the Climate Solutions and Clean Growth Advisory Council, provided the following statement on the Climate Change Accountability Act to update the province’s targets for reducing carbon pollution:

“The BC government is taking positive and necessary steps required to tackle the mammoth challenge that climate change presents. I look forward to the policies and actions the government would take to put forward and achieve new targets for 2030 and 2040, while supporting economic growth.

I am pleased that the new legislation will allow for sectoral targets. This gives government, industry and the public a framework to help identify risks and opportunities in key areas such as transportation, buildings and communities.

It is vital that BC commits to action on detailed climate-change adaptation. More than ever, we need the climate dialogue with the public to focus on both mitigation and adaptation solutions.”
