Research addresses the need for a variety of greener power sources in B.C.  – and how to meet that need. 

Electricity use is rapidly increasing as fossil fuel energy sources phase out. But shifts to electric vehicles and heat pumps are only sustainable if electric generation does not use fossil fuels. Further, generation needs to be resilient to climate-related hazards like droughts, severe weather, and wildfires.

The Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions is funding work to lay out pathways for resilient and carbon-free electricity in B.C. The project Decarbonization of B.C.’s Energy System explores the opportunities and trade-offs of alternate electricity infrastructure. The project aims to support policy and investment decisions.
