Atlantic Canada: Equitable Adaptation Workshop

May 12 @ 9:30 am - 4:30 pm

Municipalities are on the front line of climate adaptation, managing infrastructure vulnerabilities to extreme weather events. But adaptation isn’t just about infrastructure; it’s about people. At-risk and marginalized people face greater risks: increased health impacts, greater exposure during natural events, longer recovery times and prolonged financial strain. The Equitable Adaptation Workshops, led by the FCM Green Municipal Fund, offers municipal staff a practical, hands-on approach to bringing equity into climate adaptation. By targeting actions for those most at risk, municipalities create stronger, more resilient systems for all residents

These workshops are an opportunity to build capacity nationwide while helping shape resources that guide addressing local adaptation risks with equitable action. Participants will develop action plans for locally relevant adaptation pilot projects, ensuring solutions are actionable and tailored to their communities.

Designed for municipal staff, these workshops give you practical tools, case studies, and peer learning to help develop adaptation strategies that work. Learn, explore, and lead the way in equitable climate adaptation:

  • Plan actions for more effective adaptation
  • Discuss project steps toward climate adaptation, emphasizing an equity focus
  • Examine the ‘who’ and the ‘where’ of climate actions
  • Ensure actions target fairness in resource distribution and infrastructure development.
  • Learn about collaborative and inclusive design with engagement beyond consultation
